Away from the turbulent ski resorts in the Alps, we open our small resort for you as a very special kind of feel-good retreat.

The BALANCE**** Superior as a retreat to relax, enjoy, feast, rest and feel good has opened its doors all year round and we and the whole team are looking forward to your winter visit! The quiet time, as winter is called here in Carinthia, has a very special charm. It allows us to slow down, which we long for in an increasingly stressful world. How wonderful it feels to breathe in the fresh, clear air on a hike through the winter forests or along the lake.

Wrapped up in warm clothes, enjoying a sleigh ride or sitting around the campfire at the “Hexenhäusl” – when we return to the warmth of the parlour and enjoy baked apples and the first Christmas biscuits by the open fire, it warms not only our stomachs but also our souls.

The Silent Advent, our Christmas market in Pörtschach, gets you in the mood for the upcoming Christmas season. On the four Advent weekends, you can enjoy a programme full of tradition, customs, specialities such as mulled cider and romantic torch-lit walks around the unique nature reserve of the Pörtschach peninsula. Open fires, the Advent Trail of Lights and Advent concerts create a contemplative atmosphere in the evenings. Starting from the Silent Advent in Pörtschach, Wörthersee Schifffahrt offers a half-hour boat trip around the bay twice a day. Other Advent markets can be seen on the Pyramidenkogel, in Villach, Velden, in the Jauntal and on the Katschberg.

Krampus run and St Nicholas, the many different Christmas customs and New Year’s Eve – tradition is upheld here. In February, carnival and the masquerade arrive at BALANCE.

Winter and autumn delights at the BALANCE

The Gerlitzen ski area – just a 20-minute drive away – is one of our guests’ favourite mountains in summer and winter, especially because of its proximity to the BALANCE. The beautifully groomed pistes and many cosy huts make our day in the nearby Gerlitzen winter sports park something special. But it’s not just on the slopes that a winter’s day can be fun.

Advent and Christmas bring enjoyable days to BALANCE. Game specialities from pheasant to deer, baked apples, hot chestnuts by the open fire and fragrant punch leave a cosy feeling of well-being. Treat your soul to a massage or unwind in the herbal sauna, mineral earth steam bath or one of our 4 elements relaxation rooms – all this is available in the BALANCE SPA. Not just in the evening, but throughout the day, our kitchen team works on new culinary delights to round off an eventful day.
