Art and culture
Food is also important on holiday. Enjoy food, sometimes have a feast, sometimes try something traditional and all in all enjoy yourself. Many routes in the region of Wörthersee lead to holiday happiness. All routes are interesting, peppered with cultural events, flanked with custom and tradition. From the power place to the casino, from the farmers’ market to the noblest boutique, from the cultural event to a sporting high point, there are numerous discoveries to make here.
Culture has many faces and it shows a vast number of them around the Wörthersee. Water, light and music make a unique combination in Velden, an event that goes under the name of “Klangwelle”. Water games combined with the most modern light, laser and projection techniques conjure up a unique spectacle in the evening sky. In 2006, weekly performances are planned prospectively from mid-May to mid-September, every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
But there are also unspectacular things that make a break at Wörthersee so likeable and liveable. Traditional festivals such as “Arnulffest” and parish fairs, farmers’ markets and farmhouses serving their own food and wine, country inns and delicacies from Carinthia’s cuisine: all of these things give guests the feeling of being welcome in a living tradition. It is reality instead of stage-managed event culture, a holiday in the middle of life – the region of Wörthersee remains true to itself in a friendly way.
In addition there are also numerous small and large sights worth seeing. Ancient villas and natural spectacles, chapels, churches and convents and monasteries, stately homes and castles as well as a calendar packed full of events. Two dozen guided adventure excursions in three countries are included in the package “pleasures of hiking”, that are open to those who have the Wörthersee Carinthia Card free of charge. Of course guests who do not have the Card can go on these excursions after buying the ticket. Alpe-Adria-Erlebnisfahrten, also a partner of the Wörthersee Card, offers cultural adventures in the areas of potential tension of three countries and three languages. Neighbouring Slovenia and Italy fascinate with their natural beauty and cultural monuments, with their breath-taking views and new insights.
